  • Trump’s reciprocal tariffs went into effect last night and confidence in the global markets plummeted yet again. JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon said he believes a recession is a likely outcome.

  • Top IRS officials are on the precipice of resigning after Trump asked the agency to essentially weaponize its protected tax records to help with the mass deportation crusade.

  • Elon Musk called Peter Navarro (Trump’s trade adviser and tariff czar) “dumber than a sack of bricks” as the two feud over the tariffs. Karoline Leavitt said the sat was just “Boys [being] boys” and that Trump will allow them to continue fighting with an audience.

  • The Department of Justice is shuttering a unit that investigated cryptocurrency crimes, saying that Biden was too tough on the rapidly-emerging industry.

  • Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard unveiled a new task force that will declassify information that the public wants to see and improve efficiency within intelligence agency. Both efforts will contribute to her broader goal of depoliticizing the agencies.

  • A judge ruled that the White House must give the Associated Press full access to Trump again, saying that banning the outlet because of its coverage was a violation of the First Amendment.

  • Trump froze more than $1 billion in funding to Cornell and $790 million to Northwestern as both schools undergo civil rights investigations. 

  • At least half of the lawyers in the Solicitor General’s office are planning to resign as Trump’s executive orders have inundated the judiciary with litigation.

  • Former Republican governor of New Hampshire Chris Sununu announced that he will not be running for Senate in 2026 - dashing the hopes of the GOP.

  • The Supreme Court stopped a decision from a federal judge that ordered Trump to rehire thousands of probationary federal workers who were fired. The justices ruled that the nonprofit groups (who were the plaintiffs) did not have standing to sue. 

  • Nicholas J. Roske, a 29-year-old man from California, pleaded guilty on Tuesday for trying to assassinate Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Roske was found near Kavanaugh’s home with a pistol, knife, and other weapons.

  • Three people were killed and three were injured after a shooting in Fredericksburg, Virginia. All suspects are in custody and there is not an ongoing threat to the public.

  • After weeks of basically telling everyone anyway, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that he will challenge Senator John Cornyn in next year’s Republican primary.

  • China retaliated against Trump’s 104% tariff and said they will be placing an 84% tariff on US imports, which will take effect tomorrow.

  • The three Americans who were imprisoned for their role in a failed coup in the DRC have returned to the US where they will serve the rest of their sentences of life imprisonment.

  • Fifty hippos in the DRC died from anthrax poisoning. The source of the anthrax and cause are unknown.

  • Twenty people died after a fire broke out at a nursing home in north-east China. The person in charge of the home has been detained. 

  • Ukraine captured to Chinese citizens who were fighting for Russia in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. His country’s intelligence also indicates that there are many more currently fighting.

  • The death toll from the Dominican Republic nightclub roof collapse has risen to 113 people and rescue workers are continuing to search through the rubble.

  • The International Monetary Fund has made an agreement with Argentina to provide the country with a $20 billion bailout as President Javier Milei attempts to fix its economic order. Argentina has received the most IMF bailouts in the world.
